Talea is the ‘extended play’ of the music pieces which are the dearest to me, characterizing, in continuity, the intercontinental tours 2015/16. The backbone of the work is based on the concerts in Japan, Brazil and Australia, with extracts from the concerts in the United States and in Turkey. Beyond the theater exhibitions, the other face of the medal is the events in clubs as contests that allow stronger intimacy and ideas development. Some pieces were recorded in Italy, as a testimony of the tours promoted by the different cultural associations; then comes the recording in Nivola Museum and Sonar Garden by Pinuccio Sciola, a coming home that is an homage to the Sardinian root and its contemporary re-visitation. The only regret is that I have not being able to insert the recordings of the concerts in Argentina, Uruguay and in Africa (the only continent which is not present in Talea).
This double album – a testimony of beyond 60 concerts, recorded on four channels (two from mixer, and two from room take) – is human, instinctive, immediate and imperfect like all lives. I used to decide on stage which would be the playlist of the evening, based on more than four hours of repertoire, so that no exhibition would equal the previous one, deeply changing according to latitudes and contests. Improvisation constitutes the pulsing hearth of this creative process, a material of linking and developing structures. For the first time, I have given emphasis to the voice and to the revelation of Sardinian music, which entrusts a tridimensional character to the texture of the guitar orchestra.
In synthesis Talea is the point of arrival of a research and a coexistence that has lasted twenty years, during which I have embraced the instrument as the natural offshoot of my musical ideas. The protagonist is the prepared Sardinian guitar, immortalized on the cover among seaweeds and the wood consumed by the sea. It is the Talea, obtained of thousand stolen clues that have found in this instrument the territory fertile to its rebirth in another form, taken from the journey diary where the sense of belonging merges with the search of diversity.
I am happy to be able to share it with you all.
